The International Co-operative for the Development of Latin-American Railways AIFFLA has now been working for nearly two years. Up to know AIFFLA was heavily dependent from its mother organisation FLB. This should change now. Buy AIFFLA bonds and help to make AIFFLA independent and powerful. AIFFLA is already working. In Uruguay the organisation was helping Urutren to buy a rail bus. In Brazil AIFFLA will help restoring a Locobreque of the former São Paulo - Santos funicular railway as soon as a financing and work plan has been established. For more information look at

www.aiffla.com

Bonds for CHF50.00 and CHF100.00 are available in unlimited quantities. Orders may be placed at: FAHRPLANCENTER, S. LATIN AMERICA NEWS

ARGENTINA

Untouched by all the counter demonstrations and all the alternative projects, Argentine president Mrs Kirchner signed the contracts for the construction of the Buenos Aires - Rosario - Córdoba line worth 4,5bn US$. The same day investigation commenced against the leading company Alstom concerning bribery.

The existing passenger railways are continuing starving. Buenos Aires - Mar del Plata services have been reduced to just two trains a day, the lowest ever offer this line has seen in the last 100 and more years.

Against other news, El Gran Capitán Buenos Aires - Posadas continues to run on a very precarious base.

BRASIL

Eye witnesses are confirming that rehabilitation work is going ahead between Miranda and Aquidauana to reinstate Trem do Pantanal passenger train services no later than in 2009.

The city of Santos is evaluating the possibilities to re-use the now disused railway lines through the city for urban passenger transport. The freight railways opened recently a new route to the Port of Santos line avoiding the dangerous cross city lines with their numerous level crossings.

Authorization has been given to create a tourist railway line between Itú and Salto, a distance of 8 km, over the former alignment of the Mairinque - Campinas railway. The concerned municipalities are hoping to boost their economy by this way.

ECUADOR

Against all declarations rehabilitation of the Durán - Quito line willl never been accomplished by June 2008. In contrary, due to landslides the section between Alausí and Sibambe is temporarily out of service. Instead of the necessary 70'000 sleepers, only 200 have been delivered to this section.

MEXICO

The 132 km Yurecuaro - Guadalajara line may be rehabilitated for passenger services. Investments may be done by the federal state and the local administration; for train operation a private enterprise is sought.

Due to lack of funds construction of the Mérida - Cancún railway has been postponed indefinitely.

PERU

Thanks to the great demand an additional four trains have been programmed to run between Lima and Huancayo.
