The International Co-operative for the Development of Latin-American Railways AIFFLA has now been working for nearly two years. Up to know AIFFLA was heavily dependent from its mother organisation FLB. This should change now. Buy AIFFLA bonds and help to make AIFFLA independent and powerful. AIFFLA is already working.

In Uruguay the organisation was helping Urutren to buy a rail bus. Currently AIFFLA helps to get used railcars (DH1 und DH2)  from the Netherlands for Urutren. Cost: almost €2 Million.

In Brazil AIFFLA will help restoring a Locobreque of the former São Paulo - Santos funicular railway as soon as a financing and work plan has been established. For more information look at

  www.aiffla.com

Bonds for CHF50.00 and CHF100.00 are available in unlimited quantities. Orders may be placed at:

FAHRPLANCENTER, S. Rachdi, Bahnhof, CH-6422 Steinen SZ, info@fahrplancenter.com , your order will be forwarded. Interested customers in EU countries may pay to a German account, excluding high international money transfer rates.

Thank you for supporting AIFFLA.

RESUME OF THE MEETING OF  24TH JANUARY 2009

PRESENTATION BY DANIEL SORG

FLB member David Sorg showed the 13 present members of the FLB an outstanding report on the actual situation of the railways of Peru. His excellent comments were underlined by slides and  short videos. He informed about the Tacna - Arica line including its museum, on Perurail and the the Central Railway and also showed some views of the regauging at Huancayo. In addition he informed about the problems of installing a, possibly also rail bound, local suburban system, and that the city of Arequipa is much more open to such proposals.

Most members agreed that this was one of the best presentations in the history of the FLB, and no one was disturbed by the fact that the talk lasted as long as 18 h 30.

 Thank you very much, David!

ECUADOR

At the end January 2009 state president Correa reopened the rebuilt Latacunga station. For this event a special train for schoolchildren and children from towns between Quito and Latacunga was operating. On the journey back to Quito one coach derailed resulting in 4 children being hurt. The state president himself brought the 4 children to the hospital. After this he ordered a strict control of tracks and rolling stock. This may delay the start of the daily Quito - Latacunga passenger until the end of February at least.
PERU

The 3 foot gauge line Huancayo - Huancavelica is currently under regauging to 1435 mm. Locomotive 436 was already regauged as is Japanese railcar 31, while loco 435 and railcar 32 are awaiting regauging; the remaining locomotives 432, 433 and 434 have been withdrawn. There is no information to the public which means that regularly a lot of people are awaiting the train at Huancayo.
