Co-operative AIFFLA

In 2010 the International Co-operative for the Development of Latin-American Railways AIFFLA is already four years old.

Up to now AIFFLA is still heavily dependent from its mother organisation FLB. This should change now. Buy AIFFLA bonds and help to make AIFFLA independent and powerful. AIFFLA is already working.

Buy bonds to make AIFFLA strong and independent. For yourself or as a gift to friends and relatives who like Latin America and railways.

AIFFLA has already helped in Uruguay with the purchase of a rail bus for the co-operative Urutren. Urutrain is a co-operative which has been founded in  the spirit of AIFFLA.

In addition AIFFLA has accepted to contribute to the reconstruction of a Locobreque of the old São Paulo - Santos incline, as soon as a corresponding financing and work plan has been established

These are only two activities; more will follow soon.

Inform yourself on the home page www.aiffla.com

There are bonds of CHF50.00 and CHF100.00 which can be acquired in unlimited quantities. The co-operative is established according to Swiss law. Co-operative bond holders are only liable to the sum of bonds acquired and not any further.

Orders may be placed at:

FAHRPLANCENTER, S. Rachdi, Bahnhof, CH-6422 Steinen SZ, info@fahrplancenter.com , your order will be forwarded. Interested customers in EU countries may pay to a German account, excluding high international money transfer rates.

Thank you for supporting AIFFLA.

FLB INTERNALS

Annual General Meeting of the FLB

The Annual General Meeting of FLB was held January 23, 2010. The FLB  Committee will continue with the same members. Our cashier did a good job. In 2010 FLB will not buy AIFFLA shares, but AIFFLA’s debt up to CHF 2000.00 will be covered by FLB.

Meeting of the 27th February 2010

At this meeting Mr. Hauss will again present a well funded slide show, this time about the rail transport in and around Santiago de Chile in the 1970s. In order to make sure that sufficient space is available, this meeting will take place at the Restaurant Friedtal. Thereafter we meet at Restaurant Sternen for those who wish to have a dinner. Please inform us by 23rd February 2010 at  info@fahrplancenter.com or Telephone +41 41 8320134.;

LATIN AMERICA NEWS

Argentina

Start of the Salta - Cerrillos suburban train has been postponed indefinitely, because no interested operator could be found, the same as the case of the planned Tucumán - Tafí Viejo service.

Argentina/Uruguay

Entre Rios governor Urribarri plans to introduce an international passenger train between Concordia (Argentina) and Salto (Uruguay) to boost tourism.

Brasil

January 23, 2010 saw the start of the first tourist train in Espirito Santo local state. Saturday and Sunday two round trips are operated between Viana and Araguaia (46 km) by a Budd railcar. Operator of the "Trem das Montanhas Capixabas" is Serra Verde Express.

Costa Rica

The large success of the San José suburban train services is going on; this has prompted state Railway Incofer to prepare for expansion. During February 2010 a new line from Heredia to San Pedro University will open and from March 2010 on, after track repairs, a new Curidabat - San Pedro - San José line will open. The current services Pavas - San Pedro and San José - Heredia transport over 9500 passengers daily.

Cuba

State Railways UFC are beginning to recover slowly. In January 2010 trains 74/75 Cienfuegos - Sancti Spiritus have been reintroduced on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Monday to Thursday the same relation is now offered too, run with an East German rail bus set, which was formerly operating the Habana - Santo Domingo - Cienfuegos service, which has now been suspended. On February 1, 2010 the daily Santa Clara -  Sagua la Grande service restarts after repairs have been carried out on this line. Infrastructure repairs between Habana and Pinar del Rio may soon speed-up "El Lechero" train which runs three times a week between Habana and Pinar del Rio, as well as the Palacios - Pinar del Rio local train.

Recycling materials are again transported nation wide by rail; this allows the national economy to economise important quantities of fuel.

Ecuador

Due to large scale track works all train traffic will be suspended on the Riobamba-Alausí-Sibambe (Devils Nose) line between early March and early July 2010. A local railcar may run between Riobamba and Palmira only.
