Co-operative AIFFLA

In 2010 the International Co-operative for the Development of Latin-American Railways AIFFLA is already four years old.

Up to now AIFFLA is still heavily dependent from its mother organisation FLB. This should change now. Buy AIFFLA bonds and help to make AIFFLA independent and powerful. AIFFLA is already working.

Buy bonds to make AIFFLA strong and independent. For yourself or as a gift to friends and relatives who like Latin America and railways.

AIFFLA has already helped in Uruguay with the purchase of a rail bus for the co-operative Urutren. Urutrain is a co-operative which has been founded in  the spirit of AIFFLA.

In addition AIFFLA has accepted to contribute to the reconstruction of a Locobreque of the old São Paulo - Santos incline, as soon as a corresponding financing and work plan has been established

These are only two activities; more will follow soon.

Inform yourself on the home page www.aiffla.com

There are bonds of CHF50.00 and CHF100.00 which can be acquired in unlimited quantities. The co-operative is established according to Swiss law. Co-operative bond holders are only liable to the sum of bonds acquired and not any further.

Orders may be placed at:

FAHRPLANCENTER, S. Rachdi, Bahnhof, CH-6422 Steinen SZ, fahrplancenter@fahrplancenter.com , your order will be forwarded. Interested customers in EU countries may pay to a German account, excluding high international money transfer rates.

Thank you for supporting AIFFLA.

From Winterthur main station take bus No.3 towards Rosenberg, get off at the bus stop Bachtelstrasse, go across the street crossing and then go down along Bachtelstrasse towards Veltheim town centre, turn left into Löwenstrasse, and the Sternen Restaurant is just across the street from a school building.

FLB AGM

The Annual General Meeting was held on February 5, 2011 at the Restaurant Friedtal at Winterthur. All passed well. There was one discussion about a change in membership fees for people in the Euro Zone, because of the high Swiss currency, but we refused to do it. After the AGM Mr. Schneider from Germany presented us pictures from the Colombian Railway Scene and a collection of pictures from around the continent with a main emphasis on Brasil.

MEETING of
 Saturday, 26th February 2011, at 14 h3 0

Ulrich Meier will show us slides from Bolivia, Peru Central Railway in 1970 and 2003 and from Ecuador, together with the presentation on Feb. 05 and this of Nov. 13, 2010 we will complete a round-up over most Andean Railways

MEETING of
Saturday, 19th November 2011, at 14 h 30

This date was fixed at the AGM; we will then probably watch the movie on the Chilean Railways which will be produced in February/March 2011 by the German TV station SWR for ARTE.

CHILE: New Earthquake

On February 11, 2011 a new earthquake of magnitude 6,8 was registered in the Concepción region. Fortunately no one was hurt. FESUB had to withdraw train services to Lomas Coloradas for 24 hours  to fix up track geometry and to control the bridge over the Bio-Bio River. The other lines suffered a two hour interruption because an electricity overhead line was broken.

COSTA RICA

More railcars of the Apolo type reached Costa Rica, to be used soon on the line to Belén.

CUBA

Local passenger services are well performing in different regions. Around Habana services to San José de las Lajas, Rincón, Artemisa and Batabanó have been reinstated, respectively confirmed. The Las Tunas local service between the West and the East of the city has a relatively large stock of railcars and is operating at full swing. Bayamo region (Granma province) has also many operating local services. Reconstruction of the Habana - Santiago de Cuba main line is going ahead with more and more sections back to 120 km/h operation every month.
